Martin Buskin, the late education editor of Newsday and adjunct professor of journalism at Stony Brook, was an inspiration to a generation of students and practitioners of journalism. These activities are carried out in his memory.
Buskin Awards for Campus Journalism
The awards are presented to student journalists whose work demonstrates a commitment to excellence through leadership in campus journalism, outstanding work and/or impact on the Stony Brook community.There is one overall award for eligible juniors and seniors. It comes with a $500 prize sponsored by Newsday. A Cub Journalist of the Year award comes with a $100 prize.
Buskin Committee
The goal of the Buskin Committee is to foster excellence in journalism at Stony Brook University. Among the committee’s priorities is to offer meaningful information in settings that can best assist Stony Brook’s student journalists.It also sponsors the annual Buskin Awards for Outstanding Campus Journalism.
