Kaitlyn Schwanemann, a senior journalism major who has won a full tuition scholarship to complete a master’s degree at Columbia University next year, is the 2025 winner of the Martin Buskin Award for Outstanding Campus Journalism.
Schwanemann, the current managing editor of the Stony Brook Press magazine who has held numerous internships, including at NBC News, Nerd Wallet and CNN, will receive a check for $1,000 and be cited at the School of Communication and Journalism’s Majors and Minors Banquet on May 15. Her name will also be added to the plaque in the Newsroom that bears the names of Buskin Award winners since 1977.
Schwanemann said she wants to print operation or digital news site after school, ideally with a features bent.
