Michelle Karim wins 2017 Martin Buskin Award for Campus Journalism

Michelle Karim, a journalism and political science senior at Stony Brook University, has been named the 2017 Martin Buskin Award for Campus Journalism winner.

Karim is managing editor of The Stony Brook Press, a monthly campus publication, where she has demonstrated exceptional leadership, particularly during breaking news situations. She also writes for the publication and manages its web content.

The Martin Buskin Award for Campus Journalism is presented to student journalists whose work demonstrates a commitment to excellence through leadership in campus journalism, outstanding work and/or impact on the Stony Brook community. It honors the memory of Martin Buskin, the late education editor of Newsday and adjunct professor of journalism at Stony Brook.

Abigail Wolfenberger, a senior journalism major, earned an honorable mention.

Karim and Wolfenberger will be cited at the School of Journalism’s Majors Banquet on May 4.
